Lincroft Project a GREAT success

School Children in Oakley given inspirational Life Skills training

to improve their confidence for life in their next school

Lincroft middle school in Oakley has taken the inspirational step of providing a group of their pupils with a unique Life Skills mentoring course to improve their confidence and self esteem as they progress into the next stage of their education.

The Life Skills for Children course, has been designed to educate young people in a number of key skills to assist them in knowing the difference between right and wrong, how to increase their personal safety and reduce the negative affects of anti social behaviour.

This is a unique approach to life skills training,” said Gary Payne, the course’s founder. “An increasing number of children are either being subjected to, or are becoming bullies at some point in their life, and this course teaches them the skills they need to counteract this. It also allows children to grasp an understanding of social responsibility and how to positively interact with others. It has improved communication amongst students, teachers and their parents.”

We clearly identified a group of young people within the school that we felt for a number of reasons had demonstrated some negative behaviour and it was our duty to provide these students with every opportunity to make the next phase of their education an enjoyable and fruitful one.”

The Life Skills mentoring course has already made a big difference to the attitude, belief and confidence demonstrated by many members of the group, and we are delighted with the response from both the students and some of the parents that have felt compelled to write to the school to show their support for the course and share their opinions on how different their children have been in such a short period of time.” said Darren Freeman from Lincroft.

The course is delivered over a relatively short period of time and is designed to:

  • Compliment the schools behaviour policies
  • Improve the relationship between the pupils and their teachers
  • Create a working relationship between the pupil and school to solve problems
  • Improve the confidence and self esteem of the pupil

“My son has responded very well to Gary and the course. I'm sure he feels this has been one of the most useful, and valuable experiences of his time at Lincroft - and maybe his school life in its entirety” said one of the parents

There has been such a positive impact from the course at Lincroft, other local schools are looking to employ the Life Skills team to work with selected pupils from September.
