The success of the Lincroft project has inspired other schools to follow suit and provide their children with low self esteem and confidence with the Life Skills mentoring course.
Lincroft School in Oakley, Bedfordshire has been inspirational in providing a group of young people within their school with a unique educational experience designed specifically to install a number of key skills to improve their confidence, self esteem and ultimately their behaviour.
The mentoring course is a combination of material from the main Life Skills course mixed with a series of activities and mentoring exercises to give young people the opportunity to become positive members of their community.
So how does it work?
Together with the Lincroft school, the Life Skills team developed a bespoke several day course for the young people to attend twice a week for several weeks.
Each day of the project is designed around a key message and all of the activities within that day relate back to the key message. The course material is split into three categories:
- Physical PT and Team Building Activities
- Written course work
- Open discussions and one to one mentoring
On the conclusion of the course, the school receives a full report, which covers:
- A personal improvement plan for each attendee
- A day by day monitoring form for the course
- Any incident reports for the course
Each member of the course completes a STATEMENT OF INTENT, which is a document that records the fact that the student has understood the new skills they have learnt. This document stays with the school.
