St Monica's School Presentation

I first met Gary at Ousedale School in Newport Pagnell, where he was demonstrating the LSfC programme to interested parties in their sports hall.

I was inspired and impressed by Gary’s presentation skills as well as the simplicity and effectiveness of the course content.

Having been involved in the teaching profession for almost 30 years, I have worked with many children who I believe would have benefited from a programme such as this had there been one on offer.

In Gary, Life Skills has a founder who is totally committed to passing his knowledge on to children, to prepare them, not only for school life, but also life in the ‘real’ world after they leave school.

‘Kids teach Kids’ is an associated programme designed to demonstrate that LSfC is easily communicated by children to children of their own age. It provides children with a number of very important skills to increase their confidence, ability to communicate and identify potentially dangerous situations. Our children have enjoyed learning these skills and I am thrilled that we have developed our very own junior Life Skills instructor team here at St Monica’s.

Twenty of our pupils aged 7-11 years are now trained as junior instructors. This involved 4 hours of instruction from Gary. Our pupils were totally engaged in the sessions and I witnessed them growing in confidence and self esteem as they became familiar with the programme content.

Some of the benefits I observed were: children relating and identifying with each other; children losing their inhibitions and finding it easy to express themselves in front of their peers; no language barriers to overcome and most of all children enjoying themselves.

I believe that the LSfC programme will make a positive change to all of our pupils’ lives, making them more aware of the situations they will experience on a daily basis and give them the confidence to walk with their heads held high in a society that will bring them many challenges as they grow up in the future.
